Teddy Bear's Picnic

Last week we made teddy bear cakes in class for our Teddy Bear's Picnic Class Assembly.

On Wednesday we invited parents to join us, performed teddy bear themed songs and rhymes and then settled down with our families and teddies on picnic rugs to enjoy snacks and the delicious teddy bear cakes.

To end the afternoon, families joined us in the classroom so that the children could share their hard work.

Lots of Leaves

Reception went for an Autumn walk on Friday. We put on our wellies so we could have lots of fun in the huge piles of leaves. We looked to see how the garden is changing and the effects of the colder weather as we get closer to Winter.

Hedgehog Howdedo!

Herbie the Hedgehog visited Reception. We've been thinking about the different seasons and how in Autumn some animals hibernate. Reception made their own hedgehogs using forks to create the spikes and 2D shapes to create the face. We made leaf prints and leaf rubbings to create our hedgehog display.

We also made hedgehog bread.

Our Beautiful Butterflies

On Tuesday our butterflies began emerging from their chrysalises. It was incredibly exciting to see the chrysalises wriggling and then the butterflies emerging and pumping up their crumpled wings. We  observed the butterflies feeding on bananas and oranges and on specially made sugar water and then released the butterflies on Friday onto the buddleia bush outside Mrs Paske's office. They immediately unfurled their tongues and began to feed.

We're very proud that all of our caterpillars became butterflies. We obviously took good care of them!

Changes!

Our caterpillars have grown hugely and are now forming their chrysalises. All very exciting. We should have butterflies hatching within the next fortnight. Watch this space!

New Arrivals

Our caterpillars arrived through the post today. They're very tiny and very cute. We're wondering if they're going to get as fat as the Hungry Caterpillar although their food doesn't look as appetising!

Minibeasts Galore

Minibeasts are taking over our classroom! We already have snails to observe but on Friday we went up to the garden to add to our menagerie. We went worm hunting! We also collected soil to make a wormery for our worms to live in.

Here is our finished wormery. Can you spot any worms?

We're all going to the zoo tomorrow....

Actually we went to the zoo before half term. We had a wonderful day at Bristol Zoo. We took part in a Minibeasts and Me workshop and had plenty of time to see the brilliant animals.
